REFLECTIONS
Experience
Advanced Typography has been an immense learning journey as I have felt my typographic and software skills improved over the course of this semester. The module offers important challenges we must overcome as designers to develop beyond our current self. Due to the intrinsic nature of the module, the tasks requires meticulous assessment constantly to enhance and refine the work to its best possible form. This skill is useful in other areas of design as well and has definitely helped in heightening my attention to minute detail.
Observations
I noticed a common thread that ties all 3 Advanced Typography tasks together after finishing the module. All of the tasks consists of an application requirement. Just like how design utilizes multiple elements like shape, color, object and many more, a type is just as important in conveying a message to the viewers, like a brand identity to a client or a expression of certain moods, those elements are explored in the tasks of this module. I am grateful for this experience as it has helped me grow indefinitely as a designer.
Findings
After experiencing typography, I can never look at letters the same again. I noticed that every typeface has characteristics, some uniquely expressive, some reserved but complex when broken down to analyze. Each typeface is able to convey an emotion, an expression, a feeling that invokes something to the viewer. Towards the common man, a good typeface design is almost invisible, or rather they would not notice it is good until a bad typeface design replaces the current font. This made me grow an appreciation, awe and admiration towards the variety of typeface design in multimedia. Typography is an artform, one that is capable of expressivity in unique methods in comparison to other medias.
