Reflection
In regards to the first exercise, the gaming experiences from the game Arknights provided multiple features and interactions within the game such as the combat system, the various game-modes, story content and many more that contributes to the interaction dynamics of the iterative process. All of these elements contribute towards the motives of the game, to provide players with an enticing gacha element of specific visual style, while also having a rich and interesting story and gameplay mechanics. These ideations led to the creation of the game. This is seen with UNO too as the power cards that players use to gain an advantage over other players are essential as providing players with the interactive factor provides the feeling of being in control. This connects well to the gameplay motive of UNO as a race to the first player who manages to empty their hand of all cards.
The exercises gave me various insights to contribute towards the creation of our tabletop game. Firstly, player interactivity is a must and the extent of it will determine the level of player interest in a game. This requires a feature that gives the player control by either providing them with a boost or sabotaging other players for an advantage. In turn, this elevates the social dynamic of the game as it causes excitement and chaos amongst the players, as most board games are more fun depending on the people you play with. Additionally, some form of challenge is good as well to give players something to strive for. I believe that the key formula for a successful, competitive board game is to give players a challenging situation, then provide the necessary tools for them to overcome it for a satisfactory and victorious experience.
